Beautiful Mistake (2000)

Shot in Cardiff, this programme combined shots of the city with the music of John Cale as performed by Welsh stars such as Catatonia, Big Leaves and Manic Street Preachers.

 

Inventor Specials (1998)

A co-production with Canadian production company Devine Entertainment, this series documented great inventors such as Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo, Newton, Marie Curie and Edison for HBO Original Programming and The Family Channel. The series garnered critical acclaim and international award, including nine Emmy nominations and three Emmy awards.

 

The Composers’ Specials (1995)

Winner of a Cable ACE Award for Best Children’s Series. This series told the stories of composers such as Bizet, Bach, Strauss, Liszt, Rossini and Handel in a series of six one-hour specials. Broadcasted on HBO in the United States and The Family Channel in Canada, the series received numerous awards and honours in recognition of the entertaining and educational values it offered to children.

 

Merlin has also produced various documentaries for TV, including “Bringing it all Back Home”, which told the story of the influence of Irish music worldwide, and “Sult” featuring the music of traditional Irish musician Donal Lunny and various international guest musicians. Both television programmes coincided with the release of accompanying CDs which Kieran Corrigan also produced.
